PhD opportunity - applications due 5th April!
We are seeking highly motivated applicants for a PhD position available to commence in 2018 for research and training in wildlife conservation and disease ecology (specifically frog chytrid fungal disease).
Chytridiomycosis is the most devastating disease threat to biodiversity ever recorded. It has caused the decline and extinction of hundreds of frog species around the world.
The PhD applicant will be working with captive endangered Fleay's barred frogs (Mixophyes fleayi) to investigate infection dynamics and mechanisms of disease resistance that contribute to population recovery. You will also have the opportunity to get into the field, and to develop modelling skills. The project aims to have direct conservation impacts for endangered species.
The successful applicant will be supervised by leading international disease ecologist Professor Hamish McCallum, Dr. Laura Grogan (both Griffith University) and Dr. David Newell (Southern Cross University). The project offers a PhD scholarship stipend plus project funding and support.
To be eligible, applicants must have first-class honours or equivalent. Peer-reviewed publications are advantageous. The successful applicant will be offered a PhD scholarship stipend (AU$27,082 pa) plus project funding and support.
